Malone Disturbance Ecology Lab
Here in the Malone Lab, we study how climate, hydrology, and land management impact ecosystem structure and function. We study ecosystems across space and time, using big data systems like remote sensing, eddy covariance towers, and spatial and temporal models. Our goal is to build data-driven strategies that improve ecosystem condition, sustainability, and resilience to climate extremes.
Our livelihoods depend on thriving natural systems
Much of the world’s population lives in coastal areas. By understanding the causes and costs of ecological change, we can better manage these spaces in a way that benefits all. Our goal is to create stronger land management systems that address inequality and minimize destruction from our shifting climate.
